101 N Brand Blvd, Glendale, CA / 2018
We were tasked with revitalizing the façade, plaza, and lobby of 101 North Brand, a Class A office tower in downtown Glendale, California. The goal was to create a vibrant public space that would attract young creatives and become a hub for community activity.
The design team developed a modern town square concept, featuring an interactive musical clocktower called the Chromaphone. This innovative installation transforms the plaza into an engaging destination where visitors can interact with sound and color patterns on the digital clock tower. The Chromaphone's 'Waterfall Sequencer' and 'Elemental Sampler' features allow users to generate unique sounds and visuals.
The lobby renovation aimed to create a warmer and more inviting atmosphere, complete with improved wayfinding and a media display behind the new security desk that complements the Chromaphone installation outside. A bold red building logo unifies the exterior, tenant signage, and plaza seating, tying the entire space together.
The revitalization of 101 North Brand has been highly successful, with office space now at 97% occupancy rates - significantly above the neighborhood average. The public art installation in the plaza has become a beloved landmark for the community, providing a welcoming gathering space that fosters social interaction and creativity.
